Welcome Glen to the Coulter family! We did officially close on our new home on Tuesday and got keys! “Glen” is our new home’s name (it’s on Glenwood Ct). Never had a name for our house before. We’ve had names for our children, names for vehicles (my family’s boat—“Boaty”), a name for large inanimate objects like body pillows (“Franklin”) and breast pumps (“Bernard” and “Bernice”—I have two), but never a house, and I kinda like it. Welcome Glen. Excited to get to spend more time with you.
We have both houses for the month so moving much more slowly this time. I get up in the morning, load the car with some stuff, drive the 3.5 miles to the new house, let the kids run around in the empty house while I unload, then repeat. Remember the 55 days i had to lie in bed all day? So gone. Now I feel like I am a professional sherpa—carrying kids or groceries or diaper bags or stuff everywhere I go.
I thought for a bit about what the first load to Glen shfirst include. I decided on something to keep the kids busy, so the first actual thing I brought to Glen was a toy push mower that looks like Mater and a child’s skateboard. Rainy in Portland so what better way for the kids to be entertained while I unload than to terrorize an empty house with the toys. I should also note that I questioned that decision when the noise ensued. An empty house with no carpet (we have all hardwood or tile floors) makes for some LOUD children’s squeals and screams. Good thing the neighbors can’t hear us, just my poor eardrums. We have got to get some furniture and rugs in there to absorb some of the volume. Put it on the to-do list.
The big move of furniture is Sunday. Farming out all the kids and going to get-er-done so we can be sleeping over there as of Sunday night. Got cable guy coming Monday, electrician coming Wednesday…the list begins. We had to buy a new refrigerator, which will be delivered Saturday. Can I just say that shopping for something like that with four children in tow is, well, interesting. The store employees just stared at us. What can I say?! Look at all of these mouths to feed—we need a fridge! After a busy evening, we got it done. Feels so adult to buy things like a new refirdgerator. I guess we are adults—we do have four children after all!!!
We did have to bribe our kids with an ice cream run to behave in Lowe’s and Home Depot, but whatever. I predict many more trips to home stores this spring with an ice cream run scheduled afterward. Get used to it Kristina, this is your life. You are an adult, like it or not.
